The Department of Education (DepEd) issued a memorandum on conducting classes during National World Teachers Day alongside the election of the Barangay and Sagguniang Kabataan.

This memo is addressed to the Undersecretary for Operation, Atty. Rev. A. Escobedo, all regional directors, all school division superintendents, and all public schools. This was signed by Atty. Michael Wesley T. Pao, Undersecretary and Chief of Staff

The memo allows teachers to attend all the activities in connection to the nation-wide Teachers Day and to participate in the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections this coming October 30. All in-person classes from elementary, secondary, and alternative learning systems (ALS) are suspended.

Despite this, classes should be conducted in various blended modalities (modular and asynchronous) on the following dates:

October 5, 2023
October 31, 2023
November 3, 2023

Students are not forced to attend classes physically but instead do their lessons using blended modalities. This memorandum applies only to alternative learning systems in public elementary and secondary schools. Private schools have their own decision-making bodies regarding the matter.

DepEd aims to shed light on all the teachers and appreciate all their sacrifices by making the celebration more meaningful this time around. This is also the perfect time to validate all of the challenges that the teachers went through and to empower them.

It is time to celebrate our true hero.
